Lorraine Hansberry titled her play “Raisin in the Sun” based on a poem by Langston Hughes. The poem is about “dreams deferred” and what happens if one’s dreams never become real. Identify the dream of each character in the play and how it conflicts with the others. Walter (son), Mama, Ruth, and Beneatha
In the movie "Rasin in the sun" everyone looked at a different perspective about the money they recieved from the insurance company due to the loss of thier father (husband in the case with Mama). Mama wanted to buy a house so that they could live in their house and be happy rather than live in an appartment with no place. Beneatha wanted to finish her medical school with the money got. Ruth was pregnant and wanted the baby to get a good life with money. Walter wanted to invest in a business so they could live a happy life with the money they got as profits. Everyone had their own dreams but none of it was worth it when the money was given to Walter and it got stolen. Everyone was dissappointed with Walter as he gave more than half of the money away in the investment without even saving a little for his sisters education. Everyone's dream was shattered and this bought conflict among the familiy.
ReplyDeleteIn the play "Raisin in the sun" Lorraine Hansberry potrays everyone to have different dreams and the pursuit for their dream by each character affects the family greatly. Walter the main character has the dream to invest in a business and make a great deal of money. However, he never achieved this goal and this made him bitter and resentful towards his family and lifestyle. He yearned for his mother's inheritance of her late husband insurance check, and when she finally trusted him with a portion of the money, he wasted it away.
ReplyDeleteThis leads me to Beneatha's dream, she dreamed of being a doctor and being closer to her heritage at the same time. But the the money Mama gave to Walter, part of it was for Beneatha's tution. So basically she could not have her dream so I believe that is part of the reason she considered moving to Africa.
Then there was Ruth, Walter's wife, she had many dreams that she never really spoke about because she was more of a realist out of all of the characters. She basically tried to work with what she had and did what she had to, to survive.
Then mama she was the peace maker and the confidente in the play. She tried to make wise decisions that will benefit her family, because I believe her dream was to have a family that loves each other. So in the end they everyone saw and believed that Mama did everything she could to see an united family. I believe Mama dreams had become all of the characters dream in the end. Good looking out Mama.

In the movie "Raisin in the sun"Lorraine Hansberry, used a family to illustrated the different dream between a family and how each dream effect them.for instace walter the main character has a dream to invest in a liquor store, mama has a dream to buy a house, beneatha dream was to become a doctor while Ruth dream was to live poverty, but all those dream shatter when walter business patner take the rest of the money in ran.
ReplyDeleteIn the movie "Raisin in the sun" ,many of the characters in this play have hopes and aspirations for their own dreams. Like Mr. walter wanted to make a investment in a liquor store. Mama has a dream of purchasing a new home. Ruth justed wanted to use it practically and let mama decide what to do with the money and beneatha want the money to attend school to be a doctor . But after walter lost the money the famiy thought their dreams had ended. Like mama said in my house there a god .
ReplyDelete-Walters dream is to have his own business and live and own a huge house and be able to give his wife pearls to where and give his son a room.
ReplyDelete-Mama’s dream is to have a house for her family so they can live better and now have to live in a building where they have to live in living rooms and share bathrooms with other building tenants.
-Beneatha’s dream is to be a finish college and be a doctor.
-Ruth’s dream is to have a better living condition and give her children a good place to live.
Walter and Beneatha’s dream conflicts with Mama’s b/c they are counting on money that isn’t even theirs.
Mama’s dreams conflict with Walter and Beneatha’s because Walter and Beneatha was to use her money for both of their dreams and Mama doesn’t want to give the money to Walter b/c she feels it’s going to be a scam.
Ruth’s conflict between the dream is that she is totally not entitled to the money and in a way she doesn’t know how to achieve her dream on her own but is in a way counting on Walter.
But everyone’s dream becomes even more conflicted when they are unwanted in the new home they purchased. They are probably going to live unhappy in a better place instead of living in worse conditions but at least being in peace. And Walter and Beneatha’s dreams are shattered when Walter gets played and his “business partner” keeps all the money and disappears.

In the movie Raising in the Sun each family member had a dream that conflicted with one another. Mama's dream was to quit her job and live off her husband's life insurance money. Walter's dream was to own his own buisnes. Ruth's dream was to leave the apartment where they were living and have their own home. Beneatha's dream was to finish school and become a doctor. Walter and Beneatha both counted on Mama's money while Ruth just wanted to leave Mama to do what she wanted with her money and not get involved. Mama wants to help her children but hesitates because her children have become so money hungry and she feels that they will make the wrong choices.
ReplyDeleteakinaangel is Ruth
ReplyDeleteIn the movie "Raisin in the sun", everyone to have different dreams which affects the family mentally and emotionally. However, Ruth's dream is to finish school and become a doctor. Walter's is to invest the money in a liquor store business, buy a big house, give his wife everything she want and give his son his own bedroom. Mama's dream is to fianlly stop working for the first time in her life and move to a better place. Ruth didn't want to have anything to do with the money because it wasn't hers.
ReplyDeletewalter's dream was to open a liquor business, which diddnt happen because one his mom didnt give him the money he needed, and two that the money he wanted to invest in got stolen from one of his partner.'Beneatha's dream is to finish school and become a doctor, that dream almost got deferred because Walter lost the money for her education. Mama's dream was to quit her dream and go live away and be peaceful. Ruth's dream is to move away and live in a nice house
ReplyDeletewalters dream was to start his own business which did not happen because his mom said no. benathes dream was to finish school and become a doctr that dream was almost lost when walter lost the money. mams dream was to buy a house and quit her job and ruths dream was move away and live some were nice
ReplyDeleteThe raisin in the sun had many dreams in although many dreams were deferred a bigger dream became true like owner there own home. Walter Dream was to become rich and live comfortable. Beneatha's dream was to finish school and become a doctor. Mama dream was to own a house, which in the end did come true. And Ruth didn't really have a dream, but if I could guess it would be for walter to appreciate her more.
ReplyDeleteP.S this is Richardson
Mama believed that the money she received should have been invested in something that could have benefit the whole family. Ruth felt that Walter needed the money to keep him happy and that her relationship with him would be mended. Benetha expect to finish school as a doctor with a portion of the money that mama was going to give her. Sadly, Walter's dreams altered from everyone elses. He wanted to take all of the money and risk it to invest in a bar which was something mama did not believe in.

ReplyDeleteWalter wanted to invest in a liquor store to make more money and provide for his wife(Ruth, and son(Travis). Mama wanted to use the money to benefit the entire family in buying a home. Beneatha wanted to pursue her dreams by going to medical school and becoming a doctor, also get more acqauinted with her roots. Ruth simply wanted the money to be used practical, she believed in survival and going with what they had. Everyone's dreams and philosophies conflicted when Walter's business partner stole the money but in the end the Younger family eventually moved out with an optimistic outlook on their future.
ReplyDeleteWhen someone dream is deffered only god know how they might turn out. In the Raisin in the sun, Walter had a dream to be wealthy and live comfortable, but it did not go that way so he became miserable and starting attacking others rather than the problem. Mama had a dream for her family to be happy and to also buy a house, clearly contradict Walter's dream for investement. Benethea wanted money for school. Make a long story short the entire families dreams contradicted at some point.
