Does the play adequately express the female perspective during Ancient Greece? What was the role of woman in this society? How would the story be different if a woman playwright wrote it for today? Create a modern-day ending.
I am not from the ancient times so I cannot say if they were unadequatley expressed or adequately expressed. For all we know maybe some women, though, having no rights did do things like this and perhaps its was common. But from what ive learned about the women in ancient times, I do actually think that in the play unadequately expresses the female perspective. I believe this because in ancient times it is said that women were second class citizens and they had no rights. They were taught to be the wife, have children, clean, cook and the one in bed. Because women didn't have education back then and were not taught to stand up for themselves. I believe in this situation the real way a women would handle this is by crying and going away to exile and trying to take care of her children which is what she was always taught to do. If a woman play write wrote it today I think it will show more of the hate then the backstabbing. And she would not be two faced instead she will be fierce and full of rage. My modern ending would be: Medea would try really hard to enchant and have one of the palace guardes fall for her then she would sleep with him and show her husband that is leaving her that she doesnt care and then she would have the guard kill the kind the princess and her husband. She would then kill the guard her self with a magic potion (since she is a witch) and she will fled to another town with her children happy that she will have her happiness with her children and the man that was disloyal got what he wanted. He will stay with the princess and the king for ever. But, in death.
I don't believe the playwriter expressed the females'perspective during the ancient greek period because how are you to know what someone feels exactly if they were never ask, included or basically viewed as human beings. They were referred to as second class, deformed for not having a penis and simply the baby carriers. But how ironic, if females were thought to be deformed and males come from the womb of this deformed creature, shouldn't that mean that something is terribly wrong with that child??? Playwriters, I believe in this time were biased and basically wrote plays from the male perspective. The only way to think like a woman is to be a woman or "act like one." If it were the 21st century and this play was written Medea would be something like this. "Cheating ass dog your days of causing me sadness has ended. Honestly there are only two options we get a divorced and I get everything, that is your money, your kids and hell, how about you throw in some of your new wife things too basically I made it possible for you to have them anyways!!! Or option two I smack the crap out of you then when the police find your body I call it self defense. You choose!!!
The play does not accurately describe female perspective as women were considered as workers. The role of women in ancient Greece can be defined by "Separation." Women and men lived in boundaries controlled by men. Greek women were married at a young age while the men were really old. The women was not given any education and had to stay at home doing housework and taking care of the kids. If women playwright wrote it today it would be a sense of revenge as women were treated badly and men got all the respect. Medea would get another prince from somewhere and get married to him so this would get Jason mad. And when he comes to see her with the princess she would shoot the princess and kill her. This would make Jason mad as he loved her the most!
yes the play does express the role of women back in that time frame in Ancient Greece. back then women were powerless, they had no voice, men run and ruled everything back then. Back in Ancient Greece a women's role was to be submissive to have children and take care of the household.if a woamn wrote the play i think Medea would have been a more stronger person and Jason would not have treat Medea the way he did.
I agree that the playwright expressed women during the Ancient Greek time. Its express on how when had no voice period to the point where slaves had a higher voice then them. I think if I would have wrote the play the women would of been the stronger character in the play; furthermore, I think Jason would be the one to suffer more then Medea did.
It does, in those days women were looked down upon basically besause of their week exterior. Living in a male dominated society there was no independenance, as apose to mordern day where a woman could live alone, work, and build an empire with out the assistance of a man. Women has come up a long way, from being nothing but baby makers and house maids to private owned businesses and having men, if they wish, as maids. This play hit it right on the head, the oppressed woman verses the reign of man.
The role of woman in society was they was suppressed and subjected to do what they were told to do. Esspecially when it came down to men, they had a sterotypical role in society. I think it would be different if a woman wrote the play because it would show how that made the woman feel, and you would really be able to capture the true essence of what it was like a be a woman.
In my opinion yes the play adequately expressed the female perspective back then.Women basically played a slave role back then. Women had to wash, cook, clean, make babies and have sex. They weren't allowed to work or voice their opinions. Women were treated like crap and were expected to treat men like kings. Now if this play was written in modern times, my modern day ending would be: Madea cursing Jason out and probably throwing hot grits in his face. Modern day madea would beat the crap out of the new wife then sue jason for alimony and child support.-latoya mcnally
This play dosn't adequelately protray a greece woman because I believe back in those times a woman was considered a really weak figure in society. So for Madea to be such a feared and indepemdent woman seems more of a fantasy than an a realization. -----------Richardson
yes i believe the play does express the role of women back in that time frame in Ancient Greece. back then women did not have a say in anything, they had no voice and men ruled everything back then. Back in Ancient Greece a women's role was to be seen not heard to have children and take care of the household.I think if a woamn wrote the playMedea would have been a stronger person and Jason would not treat Medea the way he did.
The play does adequately express the female perspective, because female from the ancient greece period were treated like animals. throughout the stories you could see how they perpetuated woman. The only way she could be heard was through her violence. If the play was mordenized I assumed it would have been much different, because today is the reverse. Woman are very powerfull and can circumnavigate a situation to get what they want without all that violence. ~sadrack
