The play “Medea” illustrates the differences and struggles between the genders. Discuss some differences between men and women and use one quote from the play to support your viewpoint.
women are more emotional and men are less emotional. Men seem to have more control over women back in the day because they felt more superior. but in the end i think women are more caring, nurturing then men.
Women druing Greek times didn't have any control or rights; however, they were only good for being house wives. While men did whatever they please for example they could leave their wives and family to start a new family.
There were a lot of differences between men and women during the Greek times especially when "Medea" was written. Women had no education and Men controlled all the boundaries of women. They were also married at a young age to older men. They had to stay at home and watch the kids. Medea says, "a man goes out of the house and puts an end to his boredom, turns to a friend or companion, yet we are forced to keep our eyes on one alone." This says that wile men enjoyed life during those times, hanging out with friends, and other girls, women had to keep their eyes on their own husband. That's how different their lives were during the ancient Greek times.
During the greek times, women were treated as the property of the men ,they were expected to stay home,be a wives and have children only. while the men were more superior, they could do whatever they want, and can have more than one wife.
Well there are many differences between men and women but the most common one is when a man does something wrong and the female finds out, he tries to turn it around on the female by pointing out one of her flaws. Like for example in the play madea, she asks Jason would he have discussed his other marriage with her first and instead of being apologetic and accept his wrong doings, he turns around and says " And you, no doubt, would have understood, you who are incapable of controlling your bitter temper". Whereas women would have reacted more apologectic and owned up to our wrong doings, men just always try to turn things around and point out our (women) flaws once they get caught.
Scene 1/pg. 4: Nurse 1: “A man goes out of the house and puts an end to his boredom, turns to a friends or companion, yet we are forced to keep out eyes on one alone.”
Some of the differences between men and women are our opinions about what we think is good communication, what is right and what is wrong, what is considered to be disrespectful, and morals. Oh can’t forget about responsibility. (I’m sure there are more I just probably can’t think about it right now and someone might mention more differences; these are differences that I have experienced personally and make a great impact in how men and women are different or show their differences.) When women are honest with men about a certain issue or their feelings about something personal, some men consider what they are hearing or told disrespectful, when in reality it isn’t, this causes many fights because the man gets really upset and really think and say they are disrespected but in reality it’s not disrespectful at all. Many men now days just want to look good and have the best rims, cars, clothes, shoes and they in many situations don’t know how to spend their money responsibly and how to keep up with responsibilities like keeping a steady job and being on time to certain things, responsibilities that include maintaining your house clean. While many women know how to behave and have morals and things they believe in and go by many men don’t care and have no morals no believes and don’t follow anything positive that results in self value. Many men also think that its okay for them to talk to another girl and be with other women and women are not supposed to be with more than one man. All of the sudden they are called whores and sluts and all these different kinds of names. But when they do the same things it’s okay and this is what the quote I chose is referring to.
However, the differences between men and women are not just black and white. Now days many women and men do the same thing and in reality there are no differences. Years ago there was a lot more of that sort of black and white differences where society could really say women are this way and men are that way. There are women who have no morals and there are women who have morals. There are responsible women and others who aren’t so responsible. Many things that back in the day were male characteristics are now recognized in women and vice versa.
The one thing I believe truly stands today is the quote stated above. In society men brag and it is accepted for them to be shared and no one calls them names. But, if us women do it we are the ones called names.
There are many differences between men and women now and when the play madea was written. In more detail you have the sterotypical persona of a man's role in society and the womans role. For example it is most common for a man to be a firefighter opposed to a woman. So the quote i choose from the play is "a man goes out of the house and puts an end to his boredom, turns to a friend or companion, yet we are forced to keep our eyes on one alone." This quote basically is saying that when a a man is bored and has nothing to do.It is acceptable for him to go out and mingle with friends, and have a good time. However when it comes to the woman we have to stay with our mate, if we get bored it is not acceptable for us to go and have a good time with our friends. There you can see the separation between what is permitted in society for a man to do but frown upon for a woman to do.
In the play "Medea" by Euripides he clearly differentiate the roles of the genders. In the play medea is seen as powerless even though she was a witch. She really didn't have a say in what goes, she was seen as being inferior to her husband, Jason. I believe this is the reason the play write made the character Medea a witch. I believe he was exaggerating how inferior women were seen to be in this time period, that the way she could do something about a situation was to be of the supernatural world. Also Medea being a witch also represents women being seen as abnormal. And anything abnormal should be feared and not trusted as Creon said in the play and I quote "I'm afraid of you- why should I lie...You're a clever woman, versed in evil arts..." So if women were these freaks, then we ask ourselves what were men viewed as? The elite, the forunate, the voice of all human race, and most of all normal. I believe theses people were insane and needed the 21st century as an antidote for their insanity. Thats all I have to say. Kalia a.k.a. Persian Empress
Women are weak and emotional beings while men are strong, logical thinkers. In the Play madea, the character madea act on her emotions of hatreed toward he ex-husband and sought revenge by killing her children and his future wife. I dont think a man would do such a thing because when dont act on our emotion as much as women do and we're strong enough to let by gones be by gones.
Some differences between men and women would be the need for attention. Women have this need to be talked to constantly and to be loved and endured. tHEY TEND TO THINK THAT EVERY RELATIONSHIP IS THE ONE. While men are very spacious, they dont have to be tended to as much and a relationship is just a relationship. They dont dream of being married to every women they encounter, its just one day at a time for them. This all causes stress on a relationship, with there being and unequivalent balance they both pull into different directions. The man starts to feel smothered and the woman begans to feel unwated or unloved.
Woman are far more emotional than man, the play demonstrated that again that if female don't feel love by a man, than theres a void in their live. Madea sacrificed her own families live just so that she can be with jason. When Jason told her that he didn't want her no more her world just collapse and she caused even more damage.
