Group 1-Developing a Character

What were you thinking when you had to make choices on how to portray your character? Did you think about: What is my character’s voice? How do I walk? How do I speak? What words do I choose? What costume does my character wear? Elaborate on your acting process in this exercise and the challenges you had to face in this performance.

  1. In my group I automatically chose to be the barbie because honestly in high school I was the opposite of "the Barbies." I basically watched the movie "Mean girls" before performing, it gave me a sense of exactly how they are in and out of school. Getting into character was fun, it is always great to loose the happy girl act to play the mean girl at times. Overall I enjoyed the transformation and I hope I can take on the challenge of playing other school roles also. Deuces...

  2. The way I came up with my character is by remembering people I knew back in high school. My character's name was Bible Girl.
Since I was friends with some Bible club kids in high school it was easier to know how to act like them. They were very positive and bubbly and those are the characteristics I tried to portray while performing. To help with the transformation I wore a shirt that depicted the beliefs of the character so that if someone saw it they would automatically have an idea of who the character is. It was fun.

  3. I didn't think about my character much, mainly because in hig school I was kind of a jock. Not the big ass hole type but the cool always chill mode type. Although I would probably be classified in their social circle, I only hung with a select few. I guess thats why i could relate t the public pressure of friends in school. LIke the image we try to uphold.

  4. Well my character was nae nae I was the friend of nuh nuh. Being this character was kinda hard for me because I feel like the character was potrayed to be nuh nuh's follower of some sort whereas in real life I'm more of the leader not a follower. My character was suppose to speak lots of "Ebonics" and be glamourlicious so to speak. Even though this is not me in real life, I had lots of fun with my character and my group members! They made it even more enjoyable!-Latoya
